Mouse had a spare weekend recently and decided to do what he does best.......go on an adventure. Nothing too exotic as he only had the weekend but he had never been to the North East of England before so off he went.
It was quite a long journey and the weather was very typically dull and drizzly but Mouse is quite used to that so it didn't stop him getting out and seeing the famous Angel of The North.
The Angel was simply huge and Mouse felt very small indeed.
It had been a long day traveling but Mouse still had enough time to visit Durham before going to his hotel for the night.
Durham is a lovely place with a very big Cathedral that Mouse was keen to see.
Mouse spent so long looking around the large Cathedral that he ran out of time to see anything else and needed to get to his hotel for some rest ready for the following day.
Mouse was up early ready for his planned visit to The Beamish Museum. It is a Living Museum which means it is all outdoors and it is like you have been transported back in time. Mouse was going to be transported back to the time of World War 1.
His first stop was the Pit Village which is just like being in a typical North East mining community during the War.
The village was all prepared for the war effort.
Mouse even saw what it was like in a School.
The children wouldn't have used paper because it was too expensive in those days so they would write on a chalkboard or slate.
Mouse had fun in the pit village but there were other areas of the Museum to see so he got on a tram to get there. What a great way to get around!
The next stop was the Downtown area with some typical shops from the era.
Mouse was amazed, it really was like being transported back in time. His favourite place was the bakery which was selling traditional cakes and bread......delicious.
The general store showed Mouse the type of things that people would have used in their everyday lives. The Carbolic Soap was not like the shower gel that Mouse prefers to use!
Also in the town was the Masonic Hall. This is where you could sign up for The King's Shilling and join the army to fight for King and Country! Fortunately, Mouse didn't reach the minimum height requirement so he didn't have to go to the frontline.
Time was getting on now but there was just enough time to get on another tram and go even further back in time for a ride on one of the first steam locomotives.
The locomotive was much slower than modern trains!
Mouse had a great time at the Beamish Museum but unfortunately time had run out and he had to travel back home.
